Rosslyn, South Africa – Green means 'go' in more ways than one for Siya Sangweni-Fynn as he heads into the city in a Nissan Qashqai for his month behind the wheel of Nissan’s #NissanMagic programme.

As part of #NissanMagic,  Nissan is giving 12 well-known South Africans the opportunity to make a lasting positive change in an area of their choice with the help of a vehicle from Nissan's wide range of bakkies, SUVs and passenger cars.

The vibrant young radio presenter and public speaker tackled not one, but two separate acts of kindness in Jozi while he has the keys to his Nissan Qashqai 1.6 DCI Acenta with CVT gearbox in September. On Saturday 19 September, the #NissanMagic team roped in a NP200 pickup to assist with activities in and around Johannesburg.

“Spring is in the air, so I decided to return to nature for my month of #NissanMagic,” says Sangweni-Fynn. He joined forces with the Johannesburg Junior Council (JJC) to clean up the Braamfontein Spruit in Johannesburg on 19 September and will establish a vegetable garden at the Children’s Memorial Institute in Johannesburg on 24 September.

The young Sangweni-Fynn is a Durbanite and former Mayor of the Durban Youth Council (DYC). He has since made Johannesburg his home and is a core team member of CliffCentral.com, where he also presents a weekly show. The show, called unTapped Talent, unearths young local talent in various fields and was created to inspire other young people.

“While on DYC I was inspired by the energy and ambition of my fellow council members. This is why I decided to partner with the JJC to make a difference during my #NissanMagic month,” says Sangweni-Fynn.

The Johannesburg Junior Council is a unique group of 72 Grade 11 learners of all races and creeds that act as councillors in Johannesburg. Started in 1928, this type of mini council remains one of the oldest in South Africa.

Sangweni-Fynn is the fourth person to carry the torch for #NissanMagic. He follows in the footsteps of other young South Africans such as Brent Lindeque and Danine Naidoo who each received a Nissan for a month and given free reign to make a difference somewhere in South Africa.

“The campaign was born at our Rosslyn plant in Pretoria, when several colleagues were inspired to make a difference in the lives of people in our city. We realised that we could harness this positive energy and grow it beyond our staff to our large dealer network and fellow South Africans and #NissanMagic was born,” says Graeme Birch, General Manager of Marketing Communications at Nissan South Africa.

To make as much #NissanMagic as possible, Nissan supported Sangweni-Fynn, his social media followers, friends and colleagues to help clean the Braamfontein Spruit or find a similar river that needs to be rid of litter. In similar fashion, Sangweni-Fynn and Nissan South Africa will challenge fellow South Africans to establish a vegetable garden in a needy area near them.

“September is Arbor month and I want to make it a real and lasting experience for people who join the #NissanMagic campaign. This is why I will challenge everyone to join me in making a difference in the environment and the lives of others during this month,” says Sangweni-Fynn.

Anyone who would like to follow Sangweni-Fynn’s progress can join him on Twitter at @SIYA_SF, Facebook at Siya Sangweni-Fynn or Instagram at @siya_sf. His regular radio show unTapped Talent is aired between 9 and 10 on a Friday morning on CliffCentral.com.

Nissan South Africa will follow the #NissanMagic on Twitter at @nissanza, Facebook.com/NissanSouthAfrica and on YouTube at Nissan South Africa.
