Updated 2010 Qashqai

·        Introduction of the Qashqai+2 (7-seater)

·        Introduction of CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) with manual mode

·        New front-end design

·        LED rear lights

·        Added refinement

Nissan’s mid-size crossover, the Qashqai, will undergo an extensive update in April of 2010 to cement its position as the class-leading, pioneering alternative to the traditional hatchback. In addition to the introduction of the 2010 model and automatic CVT (continuous variable transmission) in April, the 7-Seater Qashqai+2 will make its debut in the South African market in May.  Purposefully designed to cater for those who need more space and flexibility, yet without any compromise on styling, the Qashqai+2 is set to build on the success of Qashqai locally and abroad.

Since its European launch in March 2007, the Qashqai has exceeded all sales ambitions, with over 500,000 customer deliveries in Europe.  Introduced in South Africa in August 2007, sales have reached over 5,500 vehicles commanding a strong share position in a competitive segment.

The updates to Qashqai reinforce its position as a stylish crossover which combines the dynamic driving characteristics of a sporty hatchback with the robust, solid virtues of a compact SUV.

REFRESHED FRONTAL ASPECT

The most notable visual change to the Qashqai is at the front, where an enhancing makeover has taken place. All new bonnet, front bumper, distinct new grille and headlamps give the Qashqai an air of premium sophistication, presence and quality.

At the rear, the new rear combi-lamp design with 12 LED stop-tail function, inner reflectors, bright chrome graphic, transparent outer lens and dark chrome bezel finishes ads to the aggressive sporty appeal. In addition to that the new aerodynamic spoiler enhances the body side characteristics and gives a very distinctive appearance in the daytime with the LED lighting offering a unique signature in the urban night.

Simultaneously boosting the urban-adventurite look and commendable levels of practicality, the 2010 Qashqai features sleek and practical roof rails as standard fit on the 2.0 - litre models and Qashqai +2.The 2.0-litre petrol and diesel models are unmistakable on the road thanks to new diamond-cut 18” alloy wheels. These sizeable 10-spoke wheels are not only a stunning design, but lend the Qashqai an air of understated aggression, perfectly filling the sculpted wheel arches and giving the overall vehicle a hunkered-down and purposeful stance.

As well as the changes to the front of the Qashqai, a series of other modifications further improves its aerodynamic efficiency to achieve improved fuel economy and reduction in CO2 emissions.

The Qashqai features an innovative upgraded design to the main display for added clarity and legibility. A redesigned drive computer is positioned between the two dials. The thin film transistor (TFT) shows instantaneous and average fuel consumption, mileage, time, cruise control and speed limiter settings among others, providing the driver with an easy to understand interface with their car. The addition of the footwell illumination provides for a welcoming warm ambience on getting into the car.

Additional oddment storage has been created for added convenience, with additional storage space at the base of the central cluster which is ideal for a mobile phone or portable audio player. A new storage space for parking tickets, keys and swipe cards located below the ventilation controls ads to the convenience.

Both petrol and diesel, 2.0l models also have cruise control added as standard, for even more relaxed highway cruising.

IMPROVED REFINEMENT

Overall life on board has been made more comfortable for occupants thanks to improved protection against noise, vibration and harshness. This has been achieved by adding an all-new multi-layer insulation material around the front bulkhead, as well as the fitment of an ‘acoustic’ windscreen which reduces the transmission of noise.

QASHQAI+2 WITH EVEN MORE SPACE

As well as the refinements and enhancements being introduced to the Qashqai range, Nissan SA is also introducing the even more practical Qashqai+2 to the local lineup that will be available to the public in May. This vehicle sees its dimensions increased to accommodate a third row of seats without losing the distinctive Crossover proportions of the original, and retains the basic mechanical package so customers can still enjoy the agility and adventurous spirit of the Qashqai just with more space - whether for a growing family or even larger and more cumbersome recreational accessories!

Comments Johan Kleynhans, director of sales, marketing and after sales at Nissan SA; “The new Nissan Qashqai and Qashqai+2 continue to offer customers in the growing city crossover segment, even more than what they expect. There’s more refinement, more luxury, more agility and more practicality, in a package which exudes trendy, fun-loving, and downright exuberance for urban life. The Qashqai will remain a dominant force in the market, with the charm and equipment needed to retain its class leadership.”
