Come the weekend of the 24th of September, the daunting challenges of our diverse countryside had best be ready! Team Patrol will be out in full force, celebrating the iconic vehicle's 60th birthday in style by getting together and conquering whatever the terrain presents simultaneously in two provincial Nissan 4X4 Club events.

On display at the events will be the first examples of the specially-equipped "Adventurer 60" Patrol 60th Anniversary Edition soon to be available to SA enthusiasts. The package includes specification which any Patrol following in the unstoppable tracks of its six decades of heritage may need in just about any situation.

In Volksrust, approximately sixty Patrols are expected to arrive at the Three Provences 4X4 Adventure, about 3 hour's drive from Jo'Burg. This area offers a number of exhilarating trails and together the fearless Nissan contingent intend on overcoming them over two full days of off road fun, where the Patrol will no doubt prove itself yet again.

The Western Cape contingent of Team Patrol will be attacking completely different sets of challenges at the Melk "Bos" situated on the farm Ogieskraal just outside Melkbosstrand.. Since the Patrol has always been an authentic 4X4 with powerful engines, low-range transfer cases and generous ground clearance these whispering sands are sure to become a theatre of great enjoyment.

A wide range of Patrol models have been confirmed as attending the two events, ranging from 1982 MQ models to a fire-breathing Patrol conversion with 6.2-litre "LS2" V8 under the squared-off bonnet. Nissan SA will be sponsoring accommodation and fuel vouchers for the event, as well as 60th Anniversary-branded jackets and other assorted memorabilia, so the weekend is sure to be an event that none will soon forget! Very much like the legendary capabilities of the Patrol itself.

"These side by side events will be a great day for Patrol enthusiasts to mix with like-minded adventurers as well as representatives of Nissan SA for the weekend. To get out there and conquer the terrain with the Patrol, which has proven to be a capable off-road vehicle for the past sixty years" comments Johan Kleynhans, Director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at Nissan SA.

With a rich heritage stretching back to the original design first produced in 1951 – for a military contract put out by the Japanese government which was focused on rebuilding the nation post-WWII – the Patrol is a vehicle which continues to adhere closely to its primary aim. Limitless off-road capability combined with exceptionally robust components for long service in the tough terrains.

By sticking to an authentic 4X4 platform, a strong ladder frame chassis, solid axles front and rear and long-travel off-road suspension the Patrol has garnered an enthusiastic following in the 4x4 fraternity. The latest Patrol which is the base of this 60th Anniversary Edition demonstrates these years of experience focused on a tight niche by retaining the traditional strengths of a no-nonsense approach to achieving the objective, of a durable but comfortable drive on and off road.

It's this fastidious dedication to being an authentic 4X4 first and foremost which has won the Patrol the affection of its adventurous base of enthusiasts, who continue to view Patrol as the ultimate authentic 4X4 SUV.

The 60th Anniversary Edition model builds on this foundation by adding accessories which the committed adventurer is sure to need. A sturdy bull bar protects the distinctive Nissan family grille and front-end, with strong spot lights attached to this bar to illuminate night-time adventures. A fitted snorkel attachment for the engine and waterproof Garmin Nuvi GPS make even the wettest obstructions traversable, with a comprehensive Recovery Kit provided as part of the package to rescue the over ambitious adventurer from genuinely impossible situations. Finally, the standard tyres are replaced by superb All Terrain BF Goodrich KOR rubber which delivers maximum traction on any surface and are durable and resistant to damage.

Patrol enthusiasts attending the birthday celebrations will get their first look at the Patrol limited edition named the "Adventurer 60" limited edition on this exciting weekend away, and Nissan is confident they will approve of the additions and recognize it as the ultimate Patrol model.

"It genuinely is a vehicle that knows no boundaries. The Nissan Patrol is a compelling package of muscle and sophistication, and of course authentic off-road capability. We urge you to experience it for yourself, as we will be doing once again with the Patrol enthusiasts who join us on this birthday celebration. " concludes Terry Mashoko, Patrol Product Manager at Nissan SA.
