It has been two years since Nissan South Africa announced the local introduction of the GT-R at the 2008 Johannesburg International Motor Show, and the super car has graced our roads for just over 12 months.
Subsequently two Nissan High Performance Centres have been established, one in Johannesburg (Melrose Nissan) and the other in Pretoria (Global GT-R in Hatfield) taking care of GT-R customers. However, there have been many requests regarding the local availability of a sports package as well as a servicing dealer in the Western Cape.
Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd. (NISMO) has also in the meantime certified Global GT-R in Hatfield, Pretoria, as an authorized dealer in South Africa to sell the “NISMO Club Sports Package” for the Nissan GT-R (R35).
The Club Sports Package was developed and put into production through the joint efforts of the NISMO development staff and the NISSAN GT-R development staff. It aims to increase performance at race circuits, but has also given consideration for driving comfort on regular roads so that it can perform optimally in highway driving conditions. The upgrade menu, which provides the highest quality product and performance includes installation, alignment, and other setup-related items. Customers are advised to stick to genuine Nissan GT-R special specified parts and to ensure that the NISMO GT-R Clubsport package is fitted by Global GT-R’s group of NISMO trained technicians to ensure that warranty requirements are fulfilled.
Global GT-R will be only the second dealership outside Japan that has been certified to sell the “NISMO Club Sports Package”. While NISMO has appointed Global GT-R as a NISMO certified garage for the Nissan GT-R, they will also make available a NISMO developed and Engineered car for exclusive track usage
NISMO is an independent Nissan company, however Nissan Motor Limited of Japan and Nissan South Africa support the initiatives at a corporate level.
During the recent Knysna Hill Climb the NISMO package proved its worth, Wilhelm Baard from Global GT-R participated with a Nissan GT-R fitted with the NISMO Club Sport Package, easily winning the Roadcar category and posting the fastest dry and wet times of the event against formidable specialised race and road machinery.
