Nissan's light and medium commercial vehicle range has been expanded with the addition of the new Nissan Patrol Pickup.

The new Nissan Patrol Pickup is a tough, powerful heavy-duty workhorse that offers the same bold and attractive cab styling of the Patrol SUV.  Its return to the South African market after an absence of five years will be welcomed by those farmers and fleet owners who found it to be a no-nonsense load-carrier, durable and reliable.

The new, improved version of the Patrol Pickup capitalises on the strengths that made the original version so popular with the agricultural and commercial markets.

It has a powerful, proven 4.2 litre in-line six cylinder common rail diesel engine which is driven by a five speed manual gearbox and develops an impressive 85kW of power at 4 000rpm.  And with a healthy 264Nm of torque at just 2 000rpm, it makes a very efficient tow vehicle.

The new Patrol Pickup is a single cab 4x4 pickup that can carry a full one ton load, filling a gap in the range for a heavy-duty, hard-working vehicle with proven off-road capability and strong fleet appeal.

Aimed primarily at agricultural, mining and industrial markets, as well as local government, Eskom, Botswana and Namibia markets, the new Patrol Pickup is also expected to find favour, as it did in the past, with recreational users who tow boats, caravans and trailers or who simply want a go-anywhere vehicle with which to explore the great South African outdoors.

Like all Nissan off-road vehicles, the Patrol Pickup comes with a 50 year plus pedigree of 4x4 technical expertise and experience. It boasts an impressive All-Terrain Suspension incorporating an advanced heavy-duty coil spring suspension with three links in front and progressive rate leaf springs at the rear with a semi-floating rear axle.

It features as standard equipment a heavy-duty chassis, Limited Slip Differential, cyclone air cleaner and long range fuel tanks with a total capacity of 175 litres (two separate tanks, a main 95 litre tank and an 80 litre sub tank) – features not usually available as standard equipment in this segment of the market.

Other advantages include approach and departure angles of 44 and 31 degrees respectively, a breakover angle of 30 degrees, a crossover height of 430mm, a wheelbase of 2.97 m and a turning circle of 12.2 m.

Braking is vacuum power assisted with 316mm ventilated discs in front and 295mm drums at the rear.

Safety features include a collapsible steering column, door side intrusion bars, halogen headlamps, a laminated windscreen, a day/night interior rear view mirror, intermittent windscreen wipers and adjustable headrests.

The Patrol Pickup's gross load capacity is 1 125kg, and its towing capacity is 750kg (without brakes) and 1 550kg (with overrun brakes).

There are also front and rear towing hooks, front mudflaps and lockable fuel filter caps.

The Patrol Pickup is not all work and no play, offering passenger car-like interior styling, appointment and features. Inside the spacious cab with its tinted windows are individual front bucket seats trimmed in vinyl. Instrumentation includes the usual fuel (main and sub tank), water temperature and oil pressure gauges, speedometer as well as a tachometer and trip meter, plus a digital clock. Steering is power assisted and the steering wheel is tilt adjustable.

Factory-approved accessories include a front bumper that can take a winch, a bullbar, a towbar / step bumper, a double barrel tube rollbar, air-conditioning and a sound system.

A double-skin rubberised loadbox is available on request.

Finally, the Nissan Patrol Pickup is covered by a three year or 100 000km factory warranty.
