• New SE models make rugged Pathfinder even more accessible
  • Excellent off-road capabilities in new value for money package
  • New levels of Quality and practicality

ROSSLYN, South Africa – Nissan today launched two new models in the Pathfinder medium SUV range providing buyers in South Africa leading off road capabilities and a healthy dose of practical features and packaging.

The new Pathfinder SE – available with either a manual or automatic gearbox – continues the Pathfinder's legendary reputation for on-road comfort and off-road prowess at a new, attractive and competitive price.

Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCi 4x4 SE

The new Nissan Pathfinder SE models join the existing Pathfinder LE and Pathfinder V9X models to create a complete range of bona fide medium SUVs which boast exceptional attributes in many respects.

The rugged and premium SUV looks meet outstanding on-road comfort, thanks to all-round independent suspension (multi-link at the rear). This offers better ride quality and handling due to lower unsprung weight and the ability for each wheel to independently address the road surface undisturbed by the other wheels. It also provides a lower centre of gravity and reduced vibration from impact shocks – and prestigious off-road driving ability in a tailor-made package developed especially for the South African market.

With the same level of quality one has come to expect from the Pathfinder, advanced off road systems and the most powerful diesel engine in its class, the new Pathfinder SE models offer a classy alternative to the 'bakkie-based' SUVs with which they compete.

The new Nissan Pathfinder SE models are powered by Nissan's proven 2.5-litre common rail turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces a class-leading 140 kW at 4 000 rpm and 450 Nm at just 2 000 rpm.

Mated to either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission and ALL-MODE 4x4 – which provides intelligent four-wheel drive, a drive mode selector switch and Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) – the new Pathfinder SE models offer the perfect blend of on-road comfort and safety as well as off-road aptitude and control.

ABLS redirects power to the driven wheels which have the most traction, using ABS wheel-speed sensors to detect a loss of traction in one or more of the driven wheels, applying braking force to the affected wheel or wheels to help slow them down.

To add to the list of impressive numbers, the new Pathfinder SE models also boast the highest towing capacity in their class, being easily able to tow a massive 3 000 kg. With excellent off-road dimensions as well, where short overhangs and great ground clearance (232 mm) allow for good approach, departure and break-over angles, the Pathfinder SE models are equally at home in the city or on a serious off-road driving trail.

Indeed, the Pathfinder SE's off-road credentials were put to the test and highlighted in the Waterberg region*, where its off-road driving dynamics, superior control and advanced 4x4 systems were scrutinised and experienced in challenging off-road conditions. Naturally, the Pathfinder SE had no trouble tackling even the toughest of obstacles, maintaining composure and comfort at all times.

The new Pathfinder SE models also offer outstanding efficiency returns, the 2.5 dCi motor being developed for optimal power and torque output but also for exceptional fuel consumption. Average fuel economy on the combined cycle for the new Pathfinder SE manual is 8.5-litres per 100 km (9.0 for the automatic) and carbon emissions are kept as low as possible, at 224 g/km (238 g/km for the automatic).

Practicality and versatility abounding, the new Pathfinder SE models also feature smart packaging and design, boasting generous load volumes and storage options to suit any situation. Equipment levels are also well-executed, ensuring the most important comfort features are all present to create a rewarding driving and ownership experience.

Included as standard, the Pathfinder SE models feature privacy glass in the rear, six cup holders, cruise control, a multi-function steering wheel, a comprehensive trip computer, Bluetooth for hands-free cellphone use, automatic dual-zone climate control and 17-inch alloy wheels, amongst other features. Safety equipment is top-notch, where six airbags are joined by ABS, EBD, VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), HSA (Hill Start Assistance), Hill Descent Control in the automatic model and ABLS.

Pathfinder quality at affordable price

With the same quality levels the Nissan Pathfinder has become renowned for in a luxurious, premium-style package with exceptional on- and off-road driving dynamics, the new Nissan Pathfinder 2.5 dCi 4x4 SE models allow for more accessible and affordable luxury with all the pros which come with the Pathfinder badge. Retailing from R450 900 including a 3-year/ 90 000 km service plan and a 3-year/ 100 000 km warranty, the new Pathfinder SE models are the perfect medium SUV options for any discerning buyer.
