Over 22 000 X-Trails have been sold since 2001 to date, with the Nissan beating its second-placed competitor by a massive 41 per cent. Pleasingly then, the X-Trail is the top-selling compact SUV of all time, having held the annual number one position for seven years.

XE and SE models gain feature upgrades
The 2012 model year sees feature upgrades applied to XE and SE models, where the former gains a USB port for media integration, Bluetooth for hands-free cellphone connectivity and audio streaming, and a multi-function steering wheel. SE models also gain a USB port and Bluetooth audio streaming which works in harmony with the existing Bluetooth hands-free system. LE models retain their premium specification, including a standard 6-CD front-loader.
