#ProtectingHourEarth: Nissan Sustainability Heroes

Nissan emphasizes the importance of driving a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive society by focusing on sustainability and sustainable practices. With sustainability at the forefront of Nissan's vision, the #ProtectingHourEarth campaign seeks to educate and celebrate the employees who play an integral role in making this vision come to life.

This week, we chat with Nancy Moodley, Senior Manager of Customer Experience, Digital & CRM at Nissan South Africa.

What does sustainability mean to you?

To me, sustainability means replenishing what we, as humans, take away from the environment.

Sustainability as a concept can sound intimidating, how do you include sustainability in your everyday practices, even at the workpiece?

I was taught the principle of recycling, reusing, and repairing from a young age. As part of our daily routine as kids, we were taught the significance of sorting our trash into the tin, glass, paper and plastic for recycling.  For example, if I'm the last person to leave the office, I make sure the lights are turned off to save energy, and in other areas of work where paper is required, I make sure we use soft copies wherever possible. I've found that the ideals of sustainability become a lifestyle if you practice them on a daily basis.

What is your advice to those who would like to take care of the planet by involving themselves in sustainability initiatives?

You can either sit on the side-lines or help fix the problem by donating your time, effort, and expertise. Because this is our world, it is up to us to respect others and respect our society by playing our part in environmental preservation. We must take action to rebuild the world through long-term programs that eliminate poverty, promote entrepreneurship, and enable people to empower one another.
