• Funds raised by Nissan suppliers and dealers
  • All proceeds go to The Girls and Boys Town Foundation
  • Nissan South Africa Managing Director, Mike Whitfield, participated on behalf of Nissan

PRETORIA, South Africa – Nissan has raised R366, 833.00 in support of the '2015 702 Sun International CEO SleepOut™', which raises awareness and funds for The Girls and Boys Town Foundation.

The 'SleepOut' initiative* challenges business leaders to take a break from the board room and sleep under the stars for one night to raise money and help bring hope to South Africa's most vulnerable children.

Nissan South Africa Managing Director, Mike Whitfield, participated on 18 June on behalf of Nissan, its service providers and dealer network family, who all contributed to the cause.

"A lot of us take basic comforts like a warm plate of food and a soft bed for granted, especially in the winter months. The 'CEO SleepOut' initiative gives Nissan suppliers and dealers a chance to come together to make a difference in the lives of abused, abandoned and orphaned children. The accumulated donation from our partners is an opportunity to make a substantial contribution to this cause," says Whitfield.

"On behalf of Nissan, I'd like to thank every one of our suppliers and partners for making a donation. What's even more incredible is that we raised the majority of these funds in just six days, which speaks to the generosity of the Nissan group," he added.

"As part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives, Nissan aims to contribute to the sustainable development of mobility and society and the 'CEO SleepOut' meets both of these goals. The event, which raises awareness of homelessness, also complements our flagship housing project.  As a way of restoring people's dignity, Nissan is building 200 houses for less fortunate citizens in partnership with the City of Tshwane," says Dudu Mwelase, General Manager for Corporate Communications at Nissan.
