Rosslyn, South Africa – Avid mountain bikers in the Muldersdrift area of Gauteng may already be used to finding the adventorous Nissan X-TRAIL on their practice trails.

This particular Nissan X-TRAIL 1.6 dCi 4WD in LE specification is serving as crew and support vehicle for digital content producer and triathlete, Jason von Berg, and mountain biker Bongani Moyo, in their preparations for the Nissan Trialseeker mountain bike race.

Von Berg chose the new Nissan X-TRAIL for his #NissanMagic campaign, in which he is training with Moyo to participate in the Lionman race near Bela Bela on 11 July.

Created by Nissan to combine its national reach, wide range of cars, bakkies and SUVs and its network of supporters, #NissanMagic will give 12 different well-known South Africans the opportunity to make a lasting positive change in an area of their choice.

The campaign was kick-started in June by the "Good News Guy" Brent Lindeque, whose Random Acts of Kindness (#RAK) sparked an international movement. Lindeque chose a Nissan NV200 for his work in collecting winter warming donations for less fortunate people, while Von Berg opted for the X-TRAIL as support and crew vehicle during his and Bongani's preparation for the Nissan Trailseeker race.

Fitted as standard with Nissan's intelligent ALL-MODE 4x4i system, the new X-TRAIL 1.6 dCi 4WD LE is as comfortable hauling mountain bikes and gear to remote practice areas as it is riding on dirt roads behind the practising pair. ALL-MODE 4x4i allows the driver to select between 4x2 and 4x4 drive, while it automatically detects wheel spin and deals with torque distribution to all four wheels.

The 1.6 dCi X-TRAIL uses direct injection and intelligent engine management to deliver 96 kW at 4 000 rpm and an impressive 320 Nm of torque a low 1 750 rpm. The low-end torque is ideal for veld-driving conditions and for lugging crew and kit around the Muldersdrift area.

"I particularly like the EZ Flex system, which allows us to fold the seats away and store our gear in safety inside the X-TRAIL," says Von Berg. "This will be particularly handy when the X-TRAIL does duty as our support vehicle in the Lionman race."

The new Nissan X-TRAIL was launched in October 2014 and has been a firm market favourite among South African crossover SUV buyers. The new range has received a full five-star safety rating from the stringent European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP).

In luxury LE-specification, Jason's X-TRAIL offers a host of luxury features, including 18 inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, a full touch screen infotainment system and leather upholstery.

Every new Nissan X-TRAIL is sold with a class-leading 6-year / 150 000 km warranty and 5-year or 90 000 km service plan.
