ROSSLYN, South Africa – This past month, Datsun challenged university students across the country to pull the newly launched Datsun GO all the way to their campus through using social media savvy skills. Students stood a chance to win the new Datsun GO by tweeting #GO with specific details about their campus.

Vhugala Mabirimisa from Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) not only showed that his twitter skills are up to scratch, but he was also able to locate the hidden keys through following clues on Datsun's social media channels, to open the door of the brand-new Datsun GO and a R5 000 fuel voucher to give him a head start. "I am at a loss of words. I truly appreciate it," said Mabirimisa. "Today was a priceless moment."

SMU received 21 266 tweets during the competition followed by University of the Free State (UFS) with 5 749 tweets and University of the Western Cape (UWC) with 1 806 tweets.

"We're thrilled to have gifted another Datsun GO through Twitter Tug of War," says Veralda Schmidt, PR Manager at Datsun. "We decided to launch the sequel of the competition to students not only because we knew how much fun they would have, but also because we know what a difference the Datsun GO will make to this student's life. The Datsun GO is the perfect student car that really assists in making dreams a reality."

But that's not all that students walked away with. During the competition, Datsun hosted numerous campus spot-activations where students were able to enter a draw and stand a chance to win one of three bursaries worth R10 000 each. The winners of the three bursaries were Siphila Dlamini from UFS, Tauhira Ajam from UWC and Sipho Mapfumari from SMHSU.

One recipient called the bursary life-changing, however, one lucky winner had other plans for his prize. Upon receiving the notification about his win, Mapfumari committed to donate his bursary to Hands of Compassion, the university's feeding scheme. Datsun levelled and pledged to match his donation of R10 000.

The Datsun GO and GO+ are stylish, have a low cost of ownership, and feature great safety qualities. Standard specifications include coloured electric side mirrors, Apple & Android Auto CarPlay, reverse parking sensors, intermittent wipers, central locking, an immobilizer, ABS, driver and passenger airbags, and retractable seatbelts.

The Datsun GO, which starts from R149,600, comes with a standard 6-year/150 000 km warranty and an optional service plan. Buying this vehicle will not cripple your tight student budget – if you work it out, you can save R75 a day including 1-year insurance and become the owner of your very own first car.
