The Nissan Qashqai was named Car of the Year in Portugal recently.  The title was awarded in recognition of the tremendous sales success of the model since sales began early last year in the Portuguese market. The car beat off stiff competition such as the Ford Mondeo and Renault's Laguna and Twingo. Furthermore, QASHQAI was also nominated as Family Car of the Year.

Only last weekend the Nissan Qashqai was put though its paces with other finalists in the local competition.  The South African winner will be announced on 18 March at a banquet in Kyalami.

Also in Portugal, the Nissan X-TRAIL was voted as the winner in the Best Off-Road vehicle category. This is the third time a Nissan model has received the Car of the Year title in Portugal. A previous model of Nissan Micra was awarded the first award of its kind back in 1985 followed by the Nissan Primera in 1991.

Diogo Jardim, Brand Director commented on the prize, "Nissan QASHQAI has been a winner since its launch and this award demonstrates the national and international recognition of QASHQAI received over the past year."
