One of the key new models launched by Nissan at Auto Africa is the Hardbody King Cab version of Nissan's top-selling one-ton pickups.

Nissan's entry into the fast-growing extended cab segment of the highly competitive one-ton pickup market will offer the biggest load space (thanks to a longer and deeper load box than its competitors) and the most powerful diesel engine in the segment.

"Our market research told us that some owners of our Hardbody pickups were looking for more room in the single cab version, with more space for valuables as well as a high-spec diesel engine," says Nissan's sales and marketing director, Mike Whitfield.  "We are very enthusiastic about the King Cab meeting these requirements and giving added value to our customers, while continuing to offer the toughest, most powerful, and best looking one-ton pickup on the market.

"The new Nissan King Cab is an addition to the Hardbody range, which has earned an enviable reputation for toughness and rugged performance since its launch in April 2002, qualities which have seen it jump from fifth to second in the one-tonner market.  With its Hi-Line level of specification, it is a dual-purpose vehicle aimed at the business professional as well as the outdoor enthusiast who is looking for a hard-working but good-looking single cab pickup that can be used for both work and play," Whitfield adds.

The King Cab is available in three versions:

  • a 4x2 Hi-Rider with Nissan's powerful 125 kW 3,3-litre V6 fuel injected petrol engine
  • a 4x2 Hi-Rider powered by the class-leading 3,0-litre 6-valve turbo-diesel engine that boasts a massive 314 Nm of torque (at just 2 000 r/min) and 105 kW of power
  • a 4x4 version of the 3.0 TD, the first time that Nissan is offering a product in the  high-spec 4x4 diesel single cab segment

It is competitively priced at R207 320 for the 4x2 petrol version, R220 670 for the 4x2 diesel and R255 590 for the 4x4 turbo-diesel.  (Prices inclusive of VAT)

The King Cab shares the aggressive exterior styling of the Hardbody Double Cabs and offers the powerful engines and the high levels of durability, quality and reliability that contributed to the success of Hardbody in South Africa.

The interior cabin space and comfort is improved by increasing the length of the cab by approximately 325 mm.  Adjustable sliding seats allow more legroom for the driver and passenger.  A storage box that fits behind the seats is an optional extra and overcomes the problem of conventional single cabs that have limited space for storage and security of valuables.

Interior level of appointment and appeal is high.  Cabin comfort features are similar to the existing Hi-Line single cabs, with power assisted windows, tilt adjustable steering column, air conditioning, electric windows and exterior mirrors and a front loader radio/CD.  There is ample stowage space for oddments.

Door pillar seals ensure extra firm window closure for a quieter, a more dust-free interior and maximum protection against water.

Seats are finished in stylish leather and textile, there is a leather covered gearshift knob and steering wheel, headrests and a sliding rear window.

The King Cab has a double skinned load box with industrial strength ribbed floor and sealed inner lining for maximum rust protection. At 1,895 mm it is the longest load box in the extended cab segment of the one-ton market.

The load box inner panels are grooved to allow the insertion of a wooden or metal board for separate front/rear loading sections.  A horizontal board can be slid in too for separate upper/lower loading decks.  The load box features a distinctive tailgate with easy to use centre latch.  A uniquely styled rear step bumper with independent mid section and aluminium tread plates completes the look.  Seen from behind, the King Cab offers the same attractive styling as the market leading Hardbody Double Cab.
