KYALAMI EQUESTRIAN PARK, KYALAMI – Nissan South Africa (Nissan SA) and the Gauteng Horse Society (GHS) celebrated the launch of the Nissan Easter Festival today. The 10-day festival is a prime event on the equestrian calendar and will run until Monday, 05 April 2010.

“As the main sponsor, we are delighted to be associated with the festival, which attracts not only the horse-riding fraternity but also the wider general public over the Easter holiday period,” said Mike Whitfield, Managing Director Nissan South Africa. “It affords us an ideal opportunity to showcase our company and products to a diverse audience.”

Nissan has secured a display arena to showcase a cross section of vehicles including its 4X4 sports utility range - Murano, Navara, Pathfinder, Patrol and X-Trail – which lends itself to a variety of outdoor leisure pursuits.  Also available for test drive will be Nissan’s light commercial vehicle (LCV) range with the  NP200 and NP300  Hardbody, and passenger vehicles  Livina X-Gear and Tiida. With a dedicated Nissan dealer in attendance, festival visitors will also have the opportunity to test drive any of these vehicles.  The  iconic GT-R and 370Z sports models will also be on display.

Said Shelly Beckbessinger, GHS’s General and Show Manager, “As a popular South African brand we believe Nissan’s participation will raise the profile of the annual festival this year. We are looking forward to partnering with them at the show, which combines competition items with a lot of family fun.”

Main equestrian events over the period include the SA Outdoor Grand Prix as well as showjumping, dressage and equitation Inter Africa competitions between teams from Botswana, Congo, Mauritius, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.  Also to be featured are a host of family activities including an animal carnival for dog lovers; a fun fair, carousel and pony rides; and a variety of stalls, including arts and crafts, pet accessories and horse riding equipment.

The GHS is the governing body of competitive equestrian sport in its region for the disciplines of dressage, driving, equitation, eventing, showing, showjumping and vaulting.  Nissan SA has entered into an initial two-year sponsorship contract with the GHS with an option to review at the end of the period.
