Made in Africa for Africa

Start of local production of the new Nissan Navara

The month of June has been a bumper one for Nissan South Africa, with a trifecta of historic milestones; the symbolic first vehicle off the brand-new Nissan South Africa production line at its Rosslyn plant outside Pretoria and the start of sales of the All New Nissan Navara, for the South African market.

Nissan Africa Managing Director Mike Whitfield was conscious of the symbolism as the first vehicle rolled off the line; "This is a wonderful moment for us as a global company with incredible African roots. We set out to build a vehicle in Africa for Africa by Africans with the all new Nissan Navara and we have achieved exactly this at our Nissan South Africa Manufacturing plant."

Fulfilling that commitment had been made even more special, said NSA Country Director, Kabelo Rabotho, by the way in which Nissan South Africa employees had been up for the challenge in spite of the massive global disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic.  "I am incredibly proud of the committed men and women, who endured many challenges, under unprecedented conditions to locally produce the Navara in our world- class production facility."

NSA Plant Director Shafick Solomons agreed; "The first vehicle rolling off the production line is the culmination of an intense period of upskilling and training for employees.  Our team has been incredibly agile, pulling out all the stops to ensure that the Navara is delivered according to Nissan's tried and trusted global quality standards."
