The Tarlton International Raceway will play host to a stable of Nissan's most prized sports cars on 30 September 2012, when the GTR_Z Club takes to the strip for the third instalment of Nismomania. The event which is open to all car clubs and car enthusiasts, promises to be action-packed and fun for all who attend.

Made for the strip

With the iconic following that Nissan's GT-R and Z-car models have generated over the years, the specialist GTR_Z Club is once again assembling in vast numbers to enjoy a day of adrenaline-filled racing fun. Sanctioned by MSA and supported by Nissan South Africa, the passionate owners club is raring to go. The event highlights the promotion of safe racing in a controlled environment in an effort to curb illegal street racing.

Nissan SA supports GTR_Z

Over the last two years, the GTR_Z Club of South Africa, formerly known as the Nissan Z-Club, has grown exponentially and with the support of Nissan South Africa has become an official Racing Club. The members of the Club are responsible for event organisation and co-ordination. The wide range of cars include Z models, the new GT-R and older Skyline GT-R models and brings many different people together who all share one common ground: an absolute passion for the Nissan brand.

Nancy Reddy, Product Manager for 370Z at Nissan South Africa comments: "Nissan's performance vehicles are world class sports cars and are continuously evolving, pioneering many new technologies in the world of performance cars. The sheer passion and joy that is reflected by the club members is what Nissan is all about. This gives our customers further opportunity to enrich their lives through Nissan.  Nismomania III is open to all car enthusiasts and will undoubtedly be another exhilarating adrenalin rush for all of them out there."

Club committee member Paul Erasmus stated: "Three years ago we saw the need to organise an event where all the Nissan performance brands could get together and 'size each other up'. Nismomania was born as a result, providing a safe environment to get guys off the streets. Last year we organised Nismomania II and this year Nissan SA decided to get involved with Nismomania III. It is heart-warming to see a manufacturer getting involved with a club on this level."

During the year the Club organises a multitude of events, including track days, breakfast runs, community and social development initiatives, Nissan dealer events (like National Nissan Day), a National Z-Run (Johannesburg to Durban), the Wonderboom Airshow, the Nissan Christmas Party at the Good Hope Orphanage (one of Nissan SA's supported orphanages) and the Nissan Christmas Party at Menlyn Park in Pretoria.

Jam-packed line up at Tarlton

Heading down the drag strip is as simple as turning up on 30 September in a Z-car or GT-R, with an MSA license (available at the track), the correct racing apparel and a heightened sense of adrenaline for what promises to be a fun day for everyone.

Besides the excitement of super-fast sports cars pitting themselves against one another, there will also be a world-first shootout race between an R35 Nissan GT-R and the Traxxas XO-1 RC car (which is claimed to do the standing ¼ mile in just 11.7 seconds), a GT-R exhibition, a Juke simulator, a 300 kW turbocharged Nissan Tiida and even a drag race between an R35 Nissan GT-R and a stunt plane.

Food and refreshment stalls will be available with attendees also welcome to bring a braai and a cooler box. Being a family event, child entertainment including a jumping castle will also be available.
